I’ve been wanting to compare and contrast Draco and Harry properly for so long. Okay, so Harry and Draco are basically structured to be the same person except on different sides of the war. If Voldemort and Dumbledore represent both faces of dark and light (although Harry can be interchangeable with Dumbly’s position), then Draco and Harry are sort of like the successors to that.

Harry and Draco are both forced to become people they don’t necessarily want to be. Their authority, Dumbledore and Lucius/Voldemort respectively try to mold these boys to be the winning force of their side. Although, I think Harry puts it upon his own shoulder sometimes that he must do everything, like his ‘saving people thing’ that Hermione brings attention to.

The thing is, they still have choices. It may not seem like it because they couldn’t just stand there and wait for things to happen. Draco chose to be submissive to Voldemort instead of being killed. Harry chose to be the hero everyone made him instead of letting everyone would die. They are taught that they’re the enemy of each other, but they’re just two young boys playing a big man’s game.

Although, I think Harry is a better person than Draco. For instance, during the Battle of Hogwarts, when the trio goes to the find the diadem and Crabbe/Goyle? casts the Fiendfyre, Harry didn’t have to save Draco. But he did, because it was the right thing to do. After seven years, Harry learns they really aren’t rivals even if they’ll never like each other or even respect each other. But I feel like Draco wouldn’t have done the same thing, if Harry was the one in trouble. I know Draco kept Harry’s identity hidden in Malfoy Manor, but it’s a bit like the thing with Dudley, telling Harry he wasn’t a waste of space. I mean, sure, for Dudley, that’s a huge and pivotal moment, but like…really? After years of torment and bullying, that’s all you have to say? Although, Dudley’s relationship was construed by the way his parents acted, and children learn from their parents. Just like with Draco, so maybe Dudders and Draco are more the same than Harry and Draco are.
